As I sit and contemplate on this Thanksgiving, I am considering my options for my Annual Holiday Charity giving. Several years ago, in protest of the commercialization of Christmas, and my hatred of shopping during the crazy holiday season, I began to give to deserving charities (The Unitarian Universalist Association, Heifer International, etc) instead of gifts. Since we all have too much stuff, I think that this is a great idea.
Of course, I did not have children or grandchildren to gift, and this year i do have a new great grandchild Jetlan to buy for…
This year I plan to contribute to the Southern Poverty Law Center (this was a close winner over the ACLU), Tree Sisters (a feminist organization dedicated to planting trees worldwide) and a wonderful effort to give ground roots support to get water filters to people in Puerto Rico.
